Klingt irgendwie vertraut, oder?

Drums. Treibende Nackenschieber treffen auf watteweiche, warme Flächen eines Fender Rhodes Piano. Kein einziger Basston zu viel, keiner zu wenig. Der Raum eingehüllt in süße Rauchschwaden. In der Ferne spielt eine Trompete eine leise Melodie. Und hin und wieder werden ein paar Zeilen auf dem Plattenteller gescratcht. Ruff rugged & … smooth eben.

Raz-One bedankt sich mit seiner Musik bei den alten Meistern, bei all denjenigen, die ihn geprägt haben, und kocht doch nach seinem ganz eigenen Rezept. Er hat den Jazz. Razmatazz klingt in seiner Beschaffenheit so wunderbar eingängig, ist dann aber doch so frei, so vielschichtig und so eklektisch. Das ist viel mehr als nur Drums und Loops und Cuts und Samples. Es ist die Symbiose aus dem musikgewordenen Wissen über eine vergangene Ära mit dem Boom und dem Bap den wir so sehr lieben. Bis auf wenige Ausnahmen hat Raz auf seinem ersten Instrumental Release alles selbst eingespielt - Rhodes, Synths, Bass, the list goes on - und damit die perfekte Balance geschaffen, um kopfnickend den Tönen des Jazz zu lauschen und die Gedanken schweifen zu lassen.

Raz-One verbeugt sich, zitiert und nimmt Bezug. GURU hat es ’93 ganz ähnlich gemacht. Razmatazz - das sind Gifted Unlimited Rhythms Universal."
